East Vancouver has a diverse culinary scene going on, so it is no surprise that there are a ton of great options for vegan and vegetarian dining going on in the area. In the past, vegetarian restaurants may have just been heaps of beans and rice, but a lot of the new spots in Vancouver are exciting, vibrant restaurants that laugh at the idea of a meatless meal being boring. Here are three of the best:

The Acorn - 3995 Main Street
An excellent mid-range restaurant with delightful minimalist design, The Acorn opened not too long ago and quickly built a reputation as one of East Vancouver’s great vegetarian restaurants. The menu is vegetarian, but there are tons of vegan and gluten-free options with fresh ingredients and beautiful presentation.

Eternal Abundance - 1025 Commercial Drive
If you’ve got some really specific raw diet or local diet going on, Eternal Abundance will be a kind of godsend for you, as they specialize in raw, local, vegan food. They’re kind of a grocery store and a cafe at the same time, and they’ve got a bunch of cooked and raw options, as well as juices and desserts. Especially good are the curry burger and the key lime pie.

Meet on Main - 4288 Main Street
The name Meet on Main is a funny nod to the fact that they simulate meat-based dishes in a way that is often as good as the real thing. It has that whole exposed beams and reclaimed wood thing going on, and all of their burgers are crazy good.
